Issue 13 of Revueltas. Revista Chilena de Historia Social Popular returns to a concern that runs through much of social history: the ways in which popular subjects constitute themselves as historical actors and dispute the conditions in which they live and act. This constitution does not occur in the abstract, nor does it respond to a consciousness given in advance. Rather, it is produced through concrete practices, shared languages, memories that organize experience, and forms of organization that make it possible to transform grievance into contestation. The works brought together in this volume examine these spaces of mediation, where the social acquires political density and politics ceases to be a separate sphere, becoming lived experience.
