Mi nombre es Jorge Pinto Rodríguez, soy profesor de Historia, Doctorado en Inglaterra. Me dediqué inicialmente a la historia colonial y posteriormente a la historia de los siglos XIX, XX y más reciente en Chile y América Latina. En términos más específicos, desde que llegué a la Universidad La Frontera he dedicado la mayor parte de mi tiempo a estudiar las conflictivas relaciones que existen entre quienes llegaron a la Araucanía y el pueblo mapuche, sobre todo a la violencia que impuso el Estado en el siglo XIX y las reacciones a esa violencia a la actualmente recurren aquellos grupos que lo están enfrentando de la misma forma como han sido tratados. Más allá de compartir la estrategia de la violencia, se busca explicar por qué se recurre a esta y cuál es el sentido de las demandas que plantean a las empresas que han llegado a la región, buscando lograr acuerdos que permitan reemplazar la violencia por la paz. Como señalé antes, hace dos años trabajo en la Universidad Católica de Temuco.
