The collaboration with repression and its representation in communist militancy. The cases of René Basoa and Miguel Estay

This article seeks to delve into the complex reality of collaboration between former communist militants and repressive agencies during the military dictatorship in Chile. It aims to characterize the dynamics of collaboration in the cases of René Basoa and Miguel Estay, as well as to identify how it was understood, represented, and explained within communist militancy. Using a variety of sources including testimonies and interviews, the construction of a collaboration network by the Joint Antisubversive Command will be analyzed. It is argued that loss of meaning and defeat played a crucial role, beyond the use of torture, in this dynamic. Furthermore, it will explore how various narratives about collaboration have been constructed, which are based on elements of communist political culture.
