Abstract

This article deals with the relationship between labor absenteeism and alcoholism during the Popular Unity government. In particular, it studies Salvador Allende's position on the problem, giving an account of how socialist morale interprets alcoholism as a fundamental factor in absenteeism. In the same way, it studies the solutions that Allende gave to the problem. Both in his analyzes and in his solutions, Allende's socialist morale coincides with traditional resources of anti-alcoholic struggles. This study is based on the analysis of Allende's speeches, during his government and in front of different groups of workers in the country.
