The aim of translating this book chapter is to know some elements of the teaching work of Edward Thompson during the period 1948-1970. This is a little-known aspect of the autor of The Making of the English Working Class, whose historiographical production, his role in the renewal of historical materialism against the dogmatic interpretation of Marxism and, in general, of the social and cultural history, has been prominent enough.
On the other hand, I hope that this translation also encourages the elaboration od others, which allow us to highlight dimensions of Thompson’s personal career, sucha as his political perspectives, or his poetic and literary production. Unveilling these multiple facets of the English historian is a Good way to remember the 60 years since the first edition of The Making, a book that maintains his influence to this day.
